About Us

Midwest Bank was founded in 1870, then called, ''The National Bank of Monmouth''. In 1916 the first location was built on the Public Square, in Monmouth, Illinois. We continued to grow in the following decades, eventually opening a branch in Kirkwood in 1982.In 1992 we were purchased by Midwest Bank Holdings and in 1994 purchased a location in Oquawka. We continued to expand, opening our first location in Galesburg in 1996, known as the Galesburg Banking Center, located on West Main Street. In 1998 we had more changes to come including the changing of our name to, ''Midwest Bank of Western Illinois'' and being changed to a state charter. In that same year, we also made Porter Insurance an entity of Midwest Bank, offering a full-service insurance agency. The following year, in 1999 we opened, the Mercer County Banking Center, following a purchase from Associated. In 2000, we built our brand-new location for the Main Bank at 200 E Broadway in Monmouth. In 2005, we were bought by, Western Illinois Bancshares and were returned to local ownership. In 2008 we opened our second location in Galesburg on Seminary Street. In 2012 the Wealth Management division was formed within Midwest Bank. In 2015, we rebranded, changing both our name to ''Midwest Bank'', and creating a new logo, still including, ''Milton'', the famous Midwest Bank owl mascot. In 2016, the bank purchased Chuck Hay Insurance, merging them with our existing Porter Insurance, to form what today is known as Porter-Hay Insurance. In 2018, we continued to expand, acquiring Andalusia Community Bank, which led to Midwest Bank having branches in Andalusia and Moline. In that same year, we opened our first Peoria location in East Peoria. In 2020, the bank expanded to a new location in a historic building on the Monmouth Square, known as,The Patton Block Building.Today we continue to provide an excellent variety of products to all of our customers, while continuing to be the small hometown bank our customers have come to love.
