Michael Fries Named Architectural Department Head

Galesburg architect assumes leadership position in regional firm
GALESBURG, IL, January 14, 2019 — Galesburg architect Michael J. Fries, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, was named Architectural Department Head for Klingner & Associates, P.C. (Klingner) this month. In his new role, Fries will guide the firm’s architectural approach, as well as oversee a staff of 12 architects, designers, interior designers, and urban planners in offices across the Midwest. He will continue to work out of the Galesburg office and serve the surrounding area.

Informed by 17 years of architectural experience, Fries has been responsible for a number of high-profile projects in the Galesburg area since joining Klingner in 2016, including the Downtown Galesburg YMCA; Aledo, IL, City Hall remodel; the Warren Achievement Center; the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts façade renovation (Monmouth, IL); and, most recently, the Warren County Jail facility assessment and Warren County Courthouse assessment. He is also the District Architect for Abingdon-Avon CUSD #276.
Fries is a graduate of Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Architecture. He serves as a volunteer firefighter for the Henderson Township Fire Protection District; is vice president of the Galesburg Civic Art Center board; belongs to the Galesburg Noon Rotary Club and Galesburg Landmark Commission; and is a lifelong member of the National Eagle Scout Association. Fries is certified with the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards; is an accredited professional with the United States Green Building Council; a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA); and is licensed in Illinois, Missouri, and Iowa.
