Galesburg, IL (November 24, 2025) In advance of the upcoming winter season, the City of Galesburg is reminding residents about the snow removal process and parking guidelines when a snow emergency is in effect.
Snow Emergency Guidelines
When snow accumulation reaches two inches or more, a snow emergency and parking prohibition will automatically go into effect for the City of Galesburg. What does this mean for citizens who park on City streets? All cars must be removed from City streets, except in the central business district, to allow snow plows to clear the streets. Any vehicles parked on City streets during a snow emergency are subject to ticketing and towing.

- Following the City on social media
- Signing up for e-alerts (text or email notifications)
- Bridges: All bridges are treated with salt when the street temperature is below freezing.
- Light Snow (less than 2 inches) and Freezing Rain: Major streets and bridges are salted, but roads are not plowed.
- Snow Emergency (2 inches or more): A parking prohibition applies to all city streets (except the Central Business District). Plowing begins on state routes and major streets, followed by residential streets.
